AUCKLAND – Defending champion Ardex-Minions and their last year’s finals nemesis TNComms-Boleros have booked their semi-final tickets in the ongoing 10th LS Banal Basketball Cup in Kelston Boys High School Gym.

Both the Minions and the Boleros have locked in their campaigns for another possible finals showdown by posting 7-1 win-loss records in their respective groups, although it’s a tad early to tell as other teams are still gunning for a semis berth in their hopes to make it to the final phase.

Playing coach Perry Salas blazed from the arc at the start of the game and his Minions never looked back and buried Dimond, 65-57.

Hebron Canlas torched the net with his 23 points while towering Patrick Maagdenberg chipped in 10 points and hauled 10 boards and Salas scored all his nine points from the three-point area.

Dimond, still alive for semis berth contention, fell to a 4-4 slate despite the efforts of Ruvas siblings Gino, Brian and Khino with their combined 34 points.

Bong Eldialde spearheaded Bolero’s second half rampage to kill any ambition left that X-Belly Roasters had of getting to the next round of the competition by hauling in 20 points in their 91-71 win.

Unable to maintain the lead they had in the first half, the Roasters dropped to a 2-6 record and bowed out of semi-final contention due to their undermanned roster that only saw Cyke Belandres, Michael Marigomen, V Gambalan and D Elardo in action.

JR Panel & Paint’s semis dream is still alive as they beat TGIF, 66-55, to improve their 4-4 record and handed the Fridays their eighth straight loss.

Mark Lachama and Jhay Salonga were a force to reckon with for the Panelbeaters with their combined 30 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks.

DMR Scalawags escaped an 72-64 overtime win against Green Crate for a 4-4 tie record.

Green Crate had the upper hand in the dying seconds of the final canto, but they squandered a couple of free throws that only opened a window for the Scalawags to tie the game at 62 all.

Jhon Boyosi and Rhad Ancia spurred the onslaught on in the extra period for Scalawags to seal the win, combining 37 points and 16 rebounds and Ej Gonzales chipped in 12 points.

Green Crate were boosted by Ivan Santos’ 17 points and 16 from R. Encarnacion.

The LS Banal Cup will take a break because of Queen’s Birthday and will be back in action on the 11th of June at the same venue.
